Tiny Hoof-prints
The Central Park Zoo welcomes four adorable mini-Nubian goats. Ace, the only male, and females Angel, Monique, and Spirit now live in the Tisch Children’s Zoo alongside pygmy goats and Newman, the zoo’s famous full-sized Nubian. All hail from upstate.
Mini-Nubians are a cross between Nigerian dwarf and full-sized Nubian goats. The minis look very similar to the larger breed, with long, floppy ears and coats of varying colors. Three of the zoo’s new goats have dark brown backs accented by white underbellies and ears. Angel, the oldest and largest of the group, stands out from the others with her light brown hair.
Zookeepers say the new goats are adjusting well to their new Manhattan digs and getting to know their exhibit mates, which include alpacas, sheep, and pot-bellied pigs. They also enjoy a variety of tasty browse, and like to kick up their hooves and run every once in a while.
