Photography Focus
Central Park Zoo's most obvious selling point is its central location.
Wildlife
Wildlife photography can take two approaches: capturing wildlife in candid, everyday interactions and portrait-style, capturing the wildlife within a low-depth of field, ambient background or environment.
Interior Exhibits
Interior photos should focus on dramatic lighting, when possible, and feature one singular focal point, whether wildlife, an exhibit detail, or a visitor interaction.
Exterior Facilities
Exterior photos should showcase both the wildlife and the natural environments with equal intent. We are proud of our facilities and go to great lengths to care and maintain the exhibits and grounds. In addition, the park has the benefit of being located in the middle of Central Park. When appropriate, photography should seize opportunities to showcase this unique value proposition.
People
Photos depicting visitor interaction should capture experiences in candid, highly engaged scenes. Context is critically important; when capturing exterior engagement (sea lion feeding), be sure to capture the environment of that interaction as well. When capturing clusters of people, ensure the visitors are focused on a single point of interest. Capturing crowds of visitors is not recommended unless the intent is to showcase an exhibit or area of the park.
Photo Treatments
All photos are treated using a slight red warming filter. Tasteful contrast may be applied to bring out highlights and shadows. Photos should never appear to be heavily treated or "photoshopped." HDR photos are not appropriate.
