Know Before You Go

Updates The Wildlife Conservation Society is temporarily closing the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and NY Aquarium, effective March16, 2020. Our five parks will be closed and education and public programs will be cancelled or postponed.

This action is being taken as city and state leaders have called on businesses to voluntarily close to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19; and following declarations of states of emergency in the United States, New York State and New York City.

We are committed to the safety of our staff, volunteers, guests and community. During this period when the parks are closed, essential animal care and operations staff will continue to provide care for our animals without disruption. For the past weeks, we have developed plans to ensure our animals will be well cared for in the event of a disruption to regular operations due to COVID-19.

We understand that this closure has interrupted plans for WCS Members and visitors. For that reason, if you have previously purchased tickets for a zoo visit we will honor/accept them on any future date in 2020. WCS Members will automatically have their Membership extended by a month or more depending on the length of the closures. If you have specific concerns, please reach out to Member Services at or customer care team at

What if I have admission tickets that are expiring? If you previously purchased tickets for a zoo visit, we will honor/accept them on any future date in 2020. But for any specific concerns or unique circumstances, please reach out to our customer care team at

INDOOR AND OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE: Please plan ahead and dress for the weather.

LIKE MOST OF MANHATTAN, WE PACK A LOT INTO A SMALL SPACE: At 6.5 acres, the Central Park Zoo is a jewel in the heart of the city, and our experiences were designed to make the most of the space we have. Be sure you explore all we have to offer! The main zoo area has 4 “zones”: Tropics (indoor multi-level rainforest); Temperate (up the hill to see red pandas, snow leopards, bears, etc.); Polar (indoor penguin exhibit); Central Garden (sea lions). The Tisch Children’s Zoo exhibit is out the gate and down the path from the Main Zoo section. Don’t miss a visit to the 4-D Theater too! A typical zoo visit is approximately 1.5-2 hours.

STROLLER RESTRICTIONS: For safety reasons, strollers are prohibited from indoor exhibit buildings. We recommend having your personal items packed up to be easily removed when parking your stroller. There are self-park stroller areas adjacent to the exhibit entrances. Please take your belongings with you when parking your stroller.

LEAVE SCOOTERS/SKATEBOARDS AT HOME: For everyone’s safety, child scooters are not permitted. See our complete list of rules.

HOLD ONTO YOUR TICKET: Due to the separation of our Main Zoo, Tisch Children’s Zoo and 4-D Theater, you need to show your ticket at all entrances. Be sure to hold onto your ticket and present it at the admissions area.

NO RE-ENTRY: Please plan for a continuous visit. We are unable to permit reentry to the main zoo once you leave. For the 4-D Theater, we recommend visiting at the start or at the end of your experience, as the theater is located on the outside path between the Main Zoo and the Tisch Children’s Zoo. The last 4-D show plays 30 minutes prior to zoo closing, so please plan accordingly.

NO PARKING: We suggest planning to arrive via mass transit. There are private parking garages in the area, which you can search in advance.

WCS MEMBERS – CARDS AND PHOTO ID CHECKED AT ENTRY: Please be prepared to follow all standard Member entry procedures and policies when visiting. Click here for more details.

NO BALLOONS: For the safety of our animals, balloons are not allowed in the zoo. See our complete list of rules.
